Are There Any Foods I Shouldn’t Eat While Pregnant?
Doctors recommend that their pregnant patients avoid raw seafood (sushi) during pregnancy. Doctors also recommend that pregnant women avoid drinking alcohol during their pregnancy. Some foods can also contain harmful bacteria and should be avoided. This list of foods would include any unpasteurized foods such as raw milk, undercooked meats, raw eggs as well as deli meats, uncooked hot dogs, fish that is high in mercury, smoked seafoods that may have been left unrefrigerated and soft cheeses such as blue cheese or brie. Most doctors also recommend that their patients keep the caffeine to a minimum during pregnancy.
I Can’t Seem To Eat 3 Meals Each Day
This is quite common during pregnancy. It’s normal to feel full when you’re pregnant. Oddly, the solution to this situation is to eat 5 smaller meals in lieu of 3 meals per day. It will help you to avoid constipation and those horrible hemorrhoids that many pregnant women complain of. Additionally, water will also help to keep toxins flushed from your system thus helping you to feel healthier.
Suffering From Leg Cramps?
Many women suffer from leg cramps during pregnancy. Did you know that this could be something as simple as eating more bananas or avocados? Foods rich in potassium will help to combat leg cramps.
How Do I Know My Baby Is Getting Enough Nutrition?
Are you eating plenty of protein and whole grain foods? Consider keeping a food journal until you feel comfortable with what your eating. By the third trimester many doctors recommend you increase that to 450 more calories per day. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
Eat The Basic Five Food Groups
Grains should be eaten on a daily basis. Doctors recommend 6 ounces of grains per day. One slice of bread is usually equivalent to one ounce of grains. Read your labels and follow the guidelines.
Vegetables are also very important. 2 and Ω to 3 cups of vegetables per day for a healthy baby.
Fruits are necessary for proper nutrition as well. 2 cups per day are usually what doctors recommend. Don’t forget you can mix and match.
Dairy includes yogurt, milk and cheeses. 3 cups per day are the usual recommendation by doctors.
Protein should be about five ounces per day. Consider peanut butter, nuts, beans, eggs and lean meats for protein.
